St Kilda City Blacks U9 v St Pauls Match Report
26th June 2011 Wattie Watson Oval
Kicking into a very strong wind in the first quarter the team had what coach Steve described as their best first quarter for the season, managing to be in attack for most of the quarter by strong determined football epitomised by Jules effort in defence where the ball came down quickly with the wind and he managed to beat 5 players to send the ball back into attack. Zac and Noah on the half back line were doing a great job keeping the ball in attack. A great effort from Tom to Dante to Darcy resulted in the only goal of the quarter.
Quarter Time 1.1 7 to 0.0 0
Tactics changed in the 2nd quarter with the strong breeze with the Coach encouraging the players to use the wind advantage and have some shots for goal. Rex was giving them drive forward from the centre bounces, and the ball was consistently driven into the scoring zone by Tom. Lain gathered the ball and sidestepped in front of a crowded to goal to score twice in the quarter. Patrick gathered a number of long kicks including a last minute goal.
Half Time 4.3 27 to 0.0 0
The 3rd quarter was a very tough affair with the wind again favouring the visitors. Hugo and Subaru were battling to win the football in the midfield and Louis and William courageously throwing themselves into the action. The ball spent most of the quarter in the backline with Izzie tacking a strong mark in the last line of defence. The ball flew towards Kai who took what Coach Steve later described as Mark of the Year due to the speed it was travelling at.
Three Quarter Time 4.3 27 to 1.2 8
St Paul’s managed a goal into the strong wind. This was quickly followed by a great effort by Harry in and under to win the ball and get it out to Patrick, which created the opportunity for another goal by Darcy. who followed up with another goal late in game. Darcy made another great attempt for goal on his left foot that just missed. Izzy and Rex were using their height to win the footy and Hugo continued his courageous play.
Final Score 6.4 40 to 2.3 15
Coach Steve congratulated the team on their improved structure in last quarter.
