A day for wet weather football. A day for big bodied boys.
Q1. Lachlan Townsend got the team off to a good start with the first shot at goal for the game. The ball was in St Kilda City’s front half for almost the whole quarter and the only time Highett went forward, they scored the first goal of the game. Oscar Eden was having a blinder of a game.
Q2. Again St Kilda City started strongly with two early shots at goal. Alistair Strutt was a rock across the defensive half. Aron Williams was in everything in spite of an injured hand. Highett kicked away with three goals for the quarter. In answer to Jack Finsterer’s question in the rooms as to what we were doing wrong, Chester Murdoch replied “Not winning the race to the ball.” Jack said that we had lost a bit of run to the ball.
Q3. City started strongly again with Jack Rainieri winning a shot at goal from a hard earned free. Bud Trevillian stopped a certain goal by touching the ball right on the line. Darcy Sullivan was good across defence. Jaimie Tzimas and Lachlan T. were getting plenty of touches across the centre. Oscar took a great mark right on the siren. Highett’s run was stopped but they still got the only goal of the quarter.
Q4. Joe Finsterer took a gutsy mark and followed up with a great disposal resulting in another great mark to Aron. Pat Starcevich was playing a captain’s game – providing both drive and support. Joe Weinbach and Alistair were marking strongly. Highett again kicked truly for a goal.
At the end of the game Highett had two more scoring shots but six were goals. City failed to kick a goal and finished with three injured but gallant players: Lachlan T, Lachlan Cain and Alistair. Oscar was best on ground.
A MIGHTY TEAM effort in tough, rugged conditions today. Six points could easily have been six or more goals. We’ll come back next week stronger and better for the experience.
