Match Report

Rd 4 vs Beaumaris 2

Back to the Peanut Farm again for an eleven thirty start. We were a few short today so Joel Crocker, Connor Moohan and Patrick Bannister helped us make the numbers.

The first quarter went well kicking to the Luna Park end Bailey ran into an open goal in the first couple of minutes to start the day off nicely. Although under instructions to ‘rest’ Lachy up (as he had representative games on the Monday) we’d have had more luck bottling wind as he continued to be at the bottom and top of packs (seemingly at the same time). With two goals as well to quarter time the Saints had managed to keep Beaumaris scoreless for the quarter.  Daniel Boltjic pleased the coach with his endeavor on the ball as well as Max Weir who was racking up possessions in the middle. The back line was again formidable with Sam Day reading the ball superbly and Dan Hocking mopping up neatly.

Howie continued his recent dominance with two goals in the second quarter and his partner in crime Matty Mac also slotted his first for the day. Charlie Hicks was again doing a lot of the grunt work at the bottom of packs and when not there was showing a clean set of hands with some strong marking. The whole teams were playing great football as we went in at half time five goals up, even though Henry had come off injured during the quarter.

Beaumaris came out firing in the third quarter and scores were level at a goal apiece for the quarter with Matty Mac getting his second for the day. Joel and Connor Moohan had come on with Joel getting plenty of the ball and Connor taking a screamer on the far wing. Patrick the younger also came on and played his fearless brand of football, which we saw in the first round of the year. With the laconic trio of Alexander and Andrew (on the wings) and Connor Bannister (off half back) again dominating Beaumaris were never going to break the Saints. We’ve come up against some great players in the opposition rucking stocks so far this year, and today was no exception. Dae was again superb as he battled hard in the ruck and around the ground swapping with Lije when he needed a break.

Rob swapped it around a bit for the last quarter. Oliver Woods went to full forward with the coaches instructions to the team to get him a goal and Lije went to centre half back. Oliver kicked two goals for the quarter and Lije pulled down some big marks in the back line. Lachy had sat the third quarter out so the coach let him off the chain and he promptly ran around handing out goals to his team mates. Couldn’t quite get Charlie Williams on the board but the Saints kicked six for the quarter, and apart from Oliver’s two, Howie got two with singles to Matty, Lachy and a well earned goal to Callum near the end.

Final Score:         St Kilda City  13 goals 3 behinds 81 pts

                                 Beaumaris (2)  3 goals 3 behinds 21 pts

Goal kickers: Howie 4, Lachy 3, Matty Mac 2, Oliver 2, Bailey 1 and Callum 1.

Good win and good song.
