Match Report
Rd 5 vs Mordi-Brae
Due to regradings of sides this round – the fixture went haywire and we found ourselves back where we were on Mother’s Day at Feral farm. Against the wind in the first quarter the Saints took a two goal lead that stayed this way for most of the game. Howie and Lachy were again prolific and Dae was dominating in the ruck. Mordi-Brae came back in what was a tough and willing second quarter and along with the Saints kicked two goals themselves. Tragedy struck late in the quarter as Lachy got up after a bump to find his forearm at right angles to his elbow. Thankfully Wendy was on duty as trainer and managed to calm Lachy and support his obviously broken arm until the ambulance came. A puff on the happy stick and a smile and Lachy was off to hospital.
A delayed start to the second half as the ambulance had to come on to the ground. The boys fought hard to hold Mordi-Brae to a single goal, with Howie slotting one for the Saints. Charlie Hicks courage was inspirational and together with Alexander and Callum managed to put the brakes on Mordi-Brae. Oliver Woods had some telling possessions in the back line as well. The three quarter lead looked enough but Mordi-Brae continued to attack. Howie, now in the back line, repelled several attacks and Matty Mac kicking his third for the day sealed the game.
Rob was rapt with what he called a great team effort, and the boys were as good as their half time creed to ‘win it for Lachy’.
Final Score: Mordi-Brae 5 goals 4 behinds 34 pts
St Kilda city 7 goals 8 behinds 50 pts
Goal kickers: Matt Mac 3, Howie 2, Lachy 2
Go City!
