Match Report

Rd 13 vs Dingley

A splendid Sunday morning at Wattie Watson saw the Saints overwhelm an undermanned Dingley side to put us right back into finals contention.

Captain Bailey Troeth lost the toss and Dingley, playing with 14 boys kicked with the aid of a strong breeze to the Port Phillip Bay end. The Saints were allowed to play with one more (15), so there was plenty of space out there. Lachy was back and in the thick of it for his first game since breaking his arm against Mordi-Brae. The Saints played well and were thwarted on the last line of attack several times. The back line was doing the job without Oliver Harvey and Henry, Elijah stepping up at centre half back and Sam Day doing what he does every week in repelling attacks. Dingley managed a long, lucky bouncing goal and a more softer one in the last ten seconds to be two goals to one up at quarter time. The Saints goal came from the boot of the skipper Bailey.

Second quarter saw the Saints dominate. Five unanswered goals for the quarter to Matty, Lachy, Dan Hocking and Max saw the Saints up by 30 points at half time.  After peppering the goals for behinds in the first five minutes it all came together as the Saints took it out of the middle continuously and locked it in the forward line on numerous occasions. Callum pulled of the tackle of the decade to stop Dingleys one chance of breaking the lines and the Charlie’s (Williams & Hicks) continued to pump it forward. The back line didn’t have much work but Daniel Botjic and Alex Scott, playing at full back this week, kept their opponents at bay.

Rob moved it around a little in the second half. Howie went to his Centre half forward position where he kicked three second half goals; Andrew Tzimus came into the centre and turned it on; Lachie to the half back flank and Dan Parish in as first ruck. Dan was super and picked up many second half possessions. With the back line keeping Dingley to 1 goal the forwards and Matty Mac went ballistic, kicking four for the quarter.

The last quarter saw the Saints go further ahead with another four for the quarter to Dingleys one. Connor Bannister was unlucky to not put his name on the goal kicking list and when Howie, from the boundary line throw in, tapped the ball down Sam Champions throat in the forward pocket it looked momentarily like another super goal before the Dingley smother saw Sam end up under a pile of Dingley jumpers with the ball somewhere in there.

Good four quarter effort from the boys, which reminded all of the early season form. Matty Mac missed Stevie Johnson by one goal and ended up with only 6.

Final Score:         Dingley 4 goals 2 behinds 26 pts

St Kilda city 14 goals 11 behinds 95 pts

Goal kickers: Matty Mac 6, Howie 3, Lachy 2, Max 1, Dan Hocking 1 and Bailey 1
