Goal umpires must be at least 16 years of age. They are responsible for ruling on goals, behinds or out-of bounds. Important points to note are:
- Field Umpires may overrule a goal umpire's decision
- Goal umpires have no authority to report players
- Goal umpires must not attempt to influence the field umpire(s)
- Goal umpires must record the scores on cards provided by the home ground Team Manager
- At the end of each quarter, goal umpires must confer in the centre of the ground to reconcile their score cards
- In the event of a dispute between goal umpires, the time-keeper's score will be regarded as correct
