MSJFL - Red & Yellow Card System for Umpires 2006

Wednesday 19th April 2006 11:56 AM

The Moorabbin Saints Junior Football League has introduced the RED & YELLOW card system and will take effect as of Round 1 in season 2006 to assist umpires in carrying out there duties with respect to sending players off the ground under MSJFL rules for the following reasons:

YELLOW CARD:

For audible obscenity and/or unsportsmanlike like behaviour.

Player is off the ground for one full quarter.

RED CARD:

For a reportable offence.

Player is off the ground for one full quarter unless otherwise specified by the umpire(s).

The Yellow card to be shown to the player that swears or displays unsportsmanlike like behaviour on the football field. The player will be sent off for a period of no less than a quarter in time. The player cannot be replaced during this period.

The Red card to be shown to the player reported showing that he is reported and must leave the ground for a period of no less than a quarter in time. The player cannot be replaced during this period.

Rationale:

1. To establish a simple, clear and concise system that everyone knows and understands.

2. The coach of the reported player can then use the runner to set up his team with a player short.

3.The runner does not have to approach the umpire to establish why the player has been sent off.

4. This allows the game to restart much quicker.

5.This also eliminates a confronting situation between the runner and the umpire.
