MATCH REPORT -v- BEAUMARIS GOLD

Even the most mathematically challenged among us should see a pattern emerging.

3 weeks ago v Ajax - strong 1st quarter effort - very weak 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters

2 weeks ago v St Bedes - strong 1st quarter effort - fair 2nd quarter effort, weak 3rd and 4th quarters

Last week v Beaumaris - v strong 1st quarter effort - moderate 2nd quarter effort, fair 3rd quarter and weak 4th quarters

We are as good as any team early in the game and getting better for longer as the players get used to what is needed to be competitive in this very competitive division.

Even more impressive was the fact that our better players e.g. Oscar W and Blake J did not contribute as much as they have in previous matches.

Great to see Geordie Z and Andrew DeF put in their best game for the season. Harry H gave us some real drive around the centre. Tom DeF also caught the eye with his steady work in defence. I heard the umpires talking after the game about Joe D and I can only agree with them when they said "There isn't much of him but he sure goes in hard".

Good to see David Topol back in action as well.

I want to see more from Anthony Amato who showed an amazing turn of speed when chased by a monster from the opposition.

So we need to keep the improvement trending upwards.

Here's my recipe:

1.  improve fitness. Clearly lacking the last querter;
2.  get the head over the ball. A little "fear factor" was apparent in a few of our players;

3.  more from everyone. Not enough 2nd, 3rd and 4th efforts. See point 1 above. You haven't done your bit until you have maintained your best effort for the entire game.

WOODSY SENIOR'S TEAM PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD

This is awarded to the player who has done something special for the team. I am not looking for the best player on the day but the award looks for special efforts e.g. unrewarded running, hard ball gets, talking and encouragement, shepherding, etc

This weeks winner is Geordie Zaunbrecher who matched up against a bigger opposition player and used some old fashioned well placed aggression to get the better of his opponent and lift his team mates.

The prize is free product (ice creams, milkshakes) from the Hard Rock Ice Creamery in Fitzroy St St Kilda. Collect the voucher at the next match.

INTERLEAGUE REPRESENTATIVE

Congratulations to Woodsy Junior for selection in the MSJFL Interleague team which plays over the coming weeks.
