MATCH REPORT 19/7/09 – ST KILDA CITY U9 V EAST BRIGHTON U9
Captain for the day – Crunch Crocker
Coach Psycho Jarrett
A good day for footy at Hurlingham Park
1st Quarter
Crunch thought we had the wind, but a quick review saw the home team kick with the wind in the first quarter. This did not deter the City boys and they immediately take the ball forward. The work ethic of the City boys is fantastic, and they outscore East Brighton for the quarter, even though they are kicking upwind. Mad Dog Jarrett and Crunch Crocker score a goal each for the quarter, and the team is playing well with lots of run out of the centre.
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City 2 goals 2 behinds, East Brighton 1 behind.
2nd Quarter
The second quarter sees the City boys kicking down wind, and with a splendid display of skills, they move the ball forward on several occasions, and create a lot of headaches for East Brighton. With the whole team playing well and creating lots of opportunities, Crunch Crocker scores three majors for the quarter, and the City boys look invincible.
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City 5 goals 3 behinds, East Brighton 1 goal 1 behind
3rd Quarter
Kicking back into the wind, and City players put their shoulders to the wheel, and with Crunch marking Bob Dylan’s kick in the goal square, another major is put on the scoreboard. The City players are giving away some free kicks by hanging onto the East Brighton players, but this only spurs the City players on even more. Lots of effort and great defensive play sees the ball kept in the forward line, and this allows Boomer Sharp to mark in front of goal. A good kick sees another major on the scoreboard, and the city players go into 3 quarter time with a 4 goal advantage and kicking downwind in the last.
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 7 goals 5 behinds, East Brighton 3 goals 2 behinds
4th Quarter
Kicking with the breeze, and we see the boys working hard again in a dedicated pursuit of glory. Great defensive clearances were the order of the quarter, as East Brighton found some mumbo in the kit bag at the 3 quarter time huddle. City players continually push the ball forward, and we see the behind tally mount, and we eventually see a major score for City when Zak Power slots a major. An even tussle for the last quarter sees City run out winners by 5 goals.
Each week we have seen the skills of the boys improve with excellent teamwork, great hand and foot passing, and this week is no exception.
Final scores – City 8 goals 8 behinds, East Brighton 4 goals 2 behinds
Outstanding Player Award – The whole team
Coaches Award – The whole team
Brick Awards – Brodie Happy Hopkins, Ted Nathan Brown
Special mention for Gowlie Ellwood for coming to support and watch the boys play again
MATCH REPORT 21/6/09 – ST KILDA CITY U9 V WAVERLEY HAWKS U9
Captain for the day – Terminator Hollick
Coach Hammer Twigg standing in for Psycho
A dark night out at Waverley.
1st Quarter
The Terminator won the toss and decided to kick down wind and downhill, and the onballers in Zak Power, Crunch Crocker and Mad Dog Jarrett liked the idea and immediately moved the ball down forward. The Waverley Hawks didn’t like that idea, so they sent it back to the centre. This disagreement went on all quarter long with The Machine, Iceman, Destroyer Dakis and Indiana Jones all combining well to push the ball forward. Down forward Bob Dylan, Boomer Sharp and The Hunk were also busy, with Cutless, Sprinter and Stan The Man putting in big time on the forward line. The Hawks started to show some of their class half way through the quarter, and they took the ball deep into their forward line and despite big efforts from Terminator, Happy Hopkins and The Breeze Blee, they score a behind. The Machine kicked in well, and the ball went back to the centre, but the Hawks teamed well and took the ball uphill and kicked a goal. The battle continued, but no clear winner for the first quarter.
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City no score, Waverley 1 goal 1 behind.
2nd Quarter
Hostilities recommenced and Zak Power gets a hit in the snoz and blood runs freely. The Hunk comes on for a run in the ruck, but the Hawks take the ball forward and score a point. The kick in sees The Hawks take possession and after a mark in front of goal they slot a major. The ball spends a lot of time in City’s backline, and The Saint Sam Grey, Sprinter Fox, Terminator and Machine are all working overtime. Super Simon and Extreme C Murdoch and Courageous Sayers are working hard across the middle, and this hard work sees several thrusts around the defensive boundary line. Crunch and Mad Dog never stop running, and they propel the ball into our forward line on several occasions. OJ The Juicer, Bob Dylan and Boomer Sharp also keep pushing the ball forward, and our zippy forward line of The Crucifier, Stan The Man and Cutless Cuthbert never stop working. The Hawks continue to repel our every move, and they score two goals for the quarter with no scoreboard impact by City.
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City no score, Waverley 3 goals 3 behinds
3rd Quarter
The big rev from Hammer in the rooms, and the boys are hyped for a huge effort in the second half. Zak Power is back in the ruck and taps it down to Iceman and City is off down forward. Waverley rebound, but a great chase by Indiana results in free kick to City and back down forward we go. Crunch takes possession just past the centre, and after a great run and bounce. He slots it through the big sticks. Great work! Back in the centre, and the hard work continues. Teamwork a plenty with lots of sheparding looks good, but Waverley continue with their good football, and manage to kick another goal with City adding a further behind for the quarter.
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 1 goal 1 behind, Waverley 4 goals 4 behinds
4th Quarter
A huge effort was the ask for the last, and the boys intensity rose a notch. Zak Power continues his good ruck work and City surge forward to start the quarter. Waverley disagrees with the intent, and they take possession and kick it forward. The backmen are under the pump with The Magician, Iceman, Terminator, Extreme C, The Saint and The Machine all working their buts off in the onslaught, but we see The Hawks reign superior with a marvelous finishing quarter where they kick 5 goals and City no score.
This result is not in our favour, but each week we see the boys playing a higher standard of footy.
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter – City 1 goal 1 behind, Waverley 9 goals 6 behinds
Outstanding Player Award – Mac The Machine Hocking
Coaches Award – OJ The Juicer Hayat
Brick Awards – Winter Sprinter Fox, Stan The Man Saniga, Elliot Indiana Jones, Noa Super Simon
Special mention for Gowlie Ellwood for coming to support and watch the boys play, and a big thanks to Hammer for rising to the occasion and performing an extremely good stand in coaching role
MATCH REPORT 21/6/09 – ST KILDA CITY U9 V AJAX U9 COMETS
Captain for the day – Mac The Machine Hocking
Coach Hammer Twigg standing in for Psycho
Footy down at Wattie Watson, the home of the mighty St Kilda City.
1st Quarter
Another gentleperson’s start at 10:00am saw all the players ready and willing. Ajax only have 16 players, hence we trim the side to 16 and away we go. City kick away from the beach and into a slight headwind for the first quarter, but that didn’t seem to bother them at the first bounce. St Kilda took it out of the middle and ran it forward with The Breeze Blee and Cutless working the packs. This allows Crunch Crocker a shot at goal but it misses to the left. Ajax take the ball down forward, and this puts the new look backline spine of The Machine Hocking and Terminator Hollick under the pump. They rise to the occasion with the help of Crucifier Posthumus, The Magician Walker and Extreme C Murdoch. This all allows Iceman Tang to break free with the ball, and he has a sensational run and bounce into the forward line, only to see the ball go back from whence it came. More hard work down in the last line of defence from The Saint Sam Grey and Happy Hopkins, and the ball comes back to half back. The midfield of Courageous Sayers, and Destroyer Dakis along with Zak Power take all this in their stride, and they free up Mad Dog Jarrett, and he also runs half the length of the oval into the forward line, but again Ajax repel the ball and take it back down forward. Some tenacious work in the packs from Ajax sees the ball kicked through the big sticks, and we go back into the middle for a ball up. Zak Power palms the ball down and Crunch sends the ball forward to the Hunk, and he kicks goal ward. A pack develops, but St Kilda get a kick in and Bob Dylan marks in front of goal. He duly slots a major, and we go into the first break with the scores all locked up.
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City 1 goal 1 behind, Ajax Comets 1 goal 1 behind.
2nd Quarter
Ajax starts the quarter well and moves the ball forward, but The Machine, Terminator and Extreme C have other ideas and they send it back to the centre. City regroups and move the ball forward and Bob Dylan and The Hunk keep the pressure on, and the ball goes forward. Ajax rebound and take the ball down to their forward line, and we have some confusion (caused by the umpire) around the goal square. A ball up results, and Crunch takes possession and runs the ball to the wing, and with delightful skills passes on to Mad Dog, who moves it on to Destroyer Dakis, and the ball is going down forward. Iceman tang gets possession in front of goal, and he grabs the opportunity and slots a major. Back in the centre, and some heavy work by Zac Power and we see Crunch working the ball on to Bob Dylan and then Courageous. Iceman marks out from the goals, and with no one on the mark, he plays on and kicks another major. City remain in the ascendancy for the rest of the quarter with some great “full on” defence work from Terminator and The Machine, and we see The Hunk kick a major, and things are looking good. Great teamwork from the likes of Crunch and Mad Dog see the ball go forward again and this time Mad Dog slots it through the middle.
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City 5 goals 1 behind, Ajax Comets 1 goal 2 behinds
3rd Quarter
The City players got the word in the rooms, that we were out to win this one and a big effort was needed to hold Ajax going with the wind in the third. Ajax got the ball forward, but the Machine was resolute in his guarding of the goals, and with help from Terminator, Nathan Brown, Crucifier and The Saint Sam Grey, the Ajax machine was only able to trouble the scorers for two majors for the quarter. The midfield of Courageous, The Magician and Happy Hopkins (taking a tremendous mark in the middle) were also working hard, and this resulted in the ball going into City’s forward zone on several occasions, but City didn’t trouble the scorers for the quarter.
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 5 goals 1 behind, Ajax Comets 3 goals 3 behinds
4th Quarter
Going with the breeze in the last, and there was cause for optimism. The Machine feeds the ball in from a behind and the balls follows the boundary to Crunch, Zak Power, The Hunk and then Boomer keeps the ball going forward and scores a behind. Ajax bring the ball back in, but heavy work from the forwards keeps the ball down forward. Still a hard contest on the ball, but The Hunk grabs it and send it forward where Crunch takes a fine mark in front of goal, only to kick a behind. Bob Dylan marks the kick in and sends it back into the square, and Crunch gets nailed (by someone on the same team) but still takes another fine mark. This kick sails through the big sticks, and back to the centre we go. Crunch’s Granddad Hughie was not sympathetic to his pains, and suggested that he just get on with the game, but this time Crunch needed time off the ground to recover. City ran the game out well with some more outstanding individual performances, and Boomer and The Hunk scored two more majors. A great game to watch, with some great footy played by the boys, and once again, the skills keep on improving.
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter – City 8 goals 3 behinds, Ajax Comets 3 goals 4 behinds
Outstanding Player Award – Bob Dylan Harrison-Smith
Coaches Award – Hugo The Hunk Twigg
Brick Awards – Marco The Magician Walker, Henry The Breeze Blee, Cody Cutless Cuthbert, The Saint Sam Grey
MATCH REPORT 21/6/09 – ST KILDA CITY U9 v MURRUMBEENA U9 GOLD
Captain for the day – Mitch Mad Dog Jarrett
Coach Hammer Twigg standing in for Psycho
Perfect weather for footy out at Kangaroo Road.
1st Quarter
The boys turned up early to play, and at the first bounce they were ready to go. St Kilda took it out of the middle and kicked to The Hunk at centre half forward, who then passed to Mad Dog, he passes on to Crunch, and Crunch kicks a goal. Nice! Back in the centre, and Murrumbeena have their say and they take it forward, but can only register a minor score. The scuffle continues all over the ground, but the backline of Sam The Saint, Extreme C Murdoch, and The Breeze Blee are putting in big time. The half backline of the Terminator, The Magician Walker, and Gillie Oulton saw plenty of action, but the Murrumbeena forwards kick another point. City start some linking football, with the likes of Destroyer Dakis and Indiana Jones feeding the ball forward to Mad Dog Jarrett, Bob Dylan and Courageous Sayers. The ball is kicked into the full forward spot and The Hunk and Cutless Cuthbert work hard at gaining possession. Murrumbeena are too strong and they take the ball back down to their forward line, and the tussle continues. Zak Power and Iceman Tang are all over the ground (just like every other week), and they are working hard in all the packs, and Courageous, just like every other week, is on the bottom of most of the ball ups. Murrumbeena score another point for the quarter, and City cannot find a way to goal.
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City 1 goal, Murrumbeena 3 behinds.
2nd Quarter
The second quarter saw St Kilda kicking downhill, and Murrumbeena kicking down wind. The quarter was a hard grind for both teams, with lots of ball ups and no clear passage to goal. Every thrust forward that City made was repelled by Murrumbeena, and they claimed the upper hand for the quarter by kicking 1 goal 1 behind, and City were unable to trouble the scorers. Lots of individual stand outs with Cutless, Crunch and Terminator marking well, smothers of renown by Iceman, hard work in the packs by Ted Nathan Brown and the Magician Walker, and some excellent in and under by Sam The Saint. A hard slog of a quarter sees City down by 4 points at the main change
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City 1 goal, Murrumbeena 1 goal 4 behinds
3rd Quarter
Match committee reviews the set up, and some subtle changes are made. The Hunk to Centre Half Back, Terminator to Centre Half Forward, Mad Dog in the Centre, and away we go.
Cutless presents well along with Happy Hopkins, but they cannot stop Murrumbeena from scoring the first goal. Out of the centre and Indiana marks well and kicks the ball forward. Cutless takes possession but can’t get a good kick away, and eventually Crunch marks in front of goal and he slots through a major. Crunch is playing well and presenting all over the ground, but Murrumbeena still press on and push forward. The Hunk is providing strong resistance at CHB, as is Extreme C and The Breeze Blee in the last line of defence. The tussle continues with more hard work down forward from Courageous, Indiana, Terminator and The Reel Macoy, but all to no avail as City cannot add to the scoreline, and the quarter ends with Murrumbeena up by 5 points.
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 2 goals, Murrumbeena 2 goals 5 behinds
4th Quarter
The huddle at the last break was all about giving it your best shot for the last quarter, and see if we can overrun them. The start saw a fast breakaway, and Murrumbeena scored a goal within a minute of the start. But City’s never say die attitude sparked up, and Herculean efforts were the asking of all players. Destroyer Dakis took a good mark in the pocket, and with the dexterity of an AFL professional, pushed the banana off the boot and scored a major. City were in with a sniff, and the tempo racked up a notch. To the disappointment of all St Kilda fans, Murrumbeena managed to go forward and score immediately after the City goal, and it looked like a huge task. No one could deny though that the city players fought on, and a magnificent sneaking goal by Boomer Sharp gave the crowd plenty to cheer about. Indiana Jones gave us a great display of skills around the goals, but just missed the opening, and Murrumbeena kept persisting and outscored City for the quarter.
Another great effort from the boys, but we finished up short on the scoreboard.
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter – City 4 goals 2 behinds , Murrumbeena 5 goals 7 behinds
Outstanding Player Award – Terminator Hollick
Coaches Award – Cody Cutless Cuthbert
Brick Awards – Boomer Sharp, Happy Hopkins, Crucifier Posthumus, Extreme C Murdoch
Compliments to Mac The Machine Hocking (registered off for the day) who turned up to support the team and his mates.
MATCH REPORT 14/6/09 – ST KILDA CITY U9 V DINGLEY U9 RED
Captain for the day – Adam Gillie Oulton
Coach Hammer Twigg standing in for Psycho
A great day for footy down at Wattie Watson Oval.
1st Quarter
St Kilda kicked towards the bay for the first quarter but they didn’t get much of a look at the water, because Dingley were relentless with their forward thrusts. The backline were under the pump from the very first moment, with The Machine Hocking, Gillie Oulton and Extreme C Murdoch trying to quell the surging expectations of Dingley. OJ The Juicer Hayat, Stan the Man Saniga and The Saint Sam Grey were all working very hard on the last line of defence but the Dingley machine overran City and they managed to kick 5 goals for the quarter. The midfield and running players for St Kilda never stopped running, and Zak Power Levin, Mad Dog Jarrett and Courageous Sayers were all over the ground trying to move the ball forward, and Iceman Tang, Indiana Jones and The Magician Walker were trying in vain to control the centre line. Hugo The Hunk Twigg was moved down back to try and resist the flow, but the quarter was well and truly won by Dingley.
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City 0 goals 0 behinds , Dingley 5 goals 6 behinds.
2nd Quarter
The second quarter saw some changes to the team structure with Crunch coming on and going into the middle, and the word from the huddle was that we had to work harder as individuals as well as a team. Dingley pounced at the start of the quarter and put the first major score on the board. City players were unmoved by this show of strength and fought back by taking the ball out of the centre and moving it forward. Super Simon was running freely down forward and providing a target, as well as OJ The Juicer at full forward. This setup gave us Ted Nathan Brown, Calin Crucifier Posthumus, Stan The Man, and The Saint Samuel as the scouts around the pack and the intensity of the struggle reached new heights. The backline showed true grit with some terrific smothers from the Machine and Terminator, and excellent skills were shown in the marking of Indiana Jones and The Machine. The midfielders in Crunch, Extreme C, and Courageous were again running all over the field, and the honours for the quarter were equally shared between St Kilda and Dingley, and the City spirit lives on.
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City 0 goals 0 behinds , Dingley 6 goals 9 behinds
3rd Quarter
Half time allowed Hammer to make some positional changes, with Terminator relieving The Machine at Centre Half Back. The call from the rooms was intensity, and the boys came out determined to put on a good show. We saw some good running and creativity from City players in this term, and the second efforts from the City players were excellent. Mad Dog Jarrett found some extra speed exiting the packs, and this allowed him to run and kick the first major score for City. Dingley were still giving it plenty and this saw the backline under heaps of pressure, with The Breeze Blee, OJ The Juicer and Bob Dylan handling the situation like real pro’s. Of particular note was the resolve of Terminator holding his position on the field and waiting for the play to come to him, and then repelling the forward thrusts of Dingley on a couple of occasions. Wouldn’t it be nice if a few more or our players stayed somewhere close to their allocated positions on the ground. Ted Nathan Brown showed that things are on the improve with some excellent hard work down forward
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 1 goal 1 behind , Dingley 8 goals 9 behinds
4th Quarter
Coach Hammer asked for personal pride to drive the boys in the last quarter and as a minimum outscore Dingley. The effort was fantastic, and every player put in to the max, and we saw a quarter with some personal highlights with a great marks taken down back by The Breeze and The Machine, and Crunch taking a mark in the middle of the pack in the forward line, which he slotted through for a major score. Cutless Cuthbert also came on for a run in this quarter, and he gave us a lift down forward, along with some excellent work by The Reel Macoy Vargas. Some great teamwork from Courageous, Mad Dog, Zak Power, Crunch, Boomer Sharp and The Hunk saw the ball moved forward which resulted in the ball being touched on the line defying City a goal. City won the quarter underlying the never say die attitude of the team, and every player put in a very big effort, with improvement in the team evident on many levels.
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter – City 2 goals 3 behinds, Dingley 9 goals 9 behinds
Outstanding Player Award – Courageous Sayers
Coaches Award – Chester Extreme C Murdoch
Brick Awards – Hugo The Hunk Twigg, Bob Dylan Harrison-Smith, Ted Nathan Brown, Reel Macoy Vargas
Compliments to Crunch, Terminator and Cutless (rostered off for the day) who turned up to support the team and their mates, and got a run anyway.
MATCH REPORT 31/5/09 - ST KILDA CITY U9 V OAKLEIGH U9
Captain for the day - Curtis Courageous Sayers
Coach Hammer Twigg standing in for Psycho
Could not see from one end of the ground to the other, but were we in for a treat. Hammer let it be known that teamwork and play on football was the task in front of every City player
1st Quarter
City lined up with Zak Power in ruck, and Mad Dog, Destroyer Dakis and Crunch working the crumbs. Captain Courageous, The Magician Walker, Gillie Oulton and Sam The Saint were in and under in the packs showing the grit of Aussie Diggers, but Oakleigh moved the ball into their forward line and kick a behind for the first score of the match. The Machine Hocking kicks the ball in like a professional and Mad Dog marks on the chest. He plays on and kick into the centre of the ground where the Terminator continues the forward motion of the ball. Down in the forward line, The Hunk, Reel Macoy and Crucifier are working the ball forward on every occasion. All the hard work by the team pays off with Crunch Crocker nailing the first City goal. After the ball up in the middle, the ball is moved forward by the likes of The Breeze, Super Simon and Winter Sprinter, and this sees Reel Macoy, who is very busy with his hands, pass the ball off to Mad Dog who then kicks to Zak Power, who duly slots another goal. Oakleigh take the ball away from the centre and move it into their forward line, but a valiant mark by Courageous stops the flow. He moves the ball off to Crunch who kicks it down forward. Oakleigh repel the ball only to land it in the hands of Crunch, who plays on and slots another major for City. More hard work for the backline after the centre ball up sees a magnificent mark by Indiana Jones, and the quarter ends with City in possession going forward.
Scores at the end of the first quarter - City 3 goals , Oakleigh 1 behind.
2nd Quarter
Similar scenes in the second quarter with a struggle in the packs. Teamwork and good coaching sees the City players forming a barrier across the centre, and the midfield of Iceman, Terminator and The Magician move the ball forward. This allows Mad Dog to float down forward and he duly takes possession and slots the first major for the quarter. From the ball up, the ball goes forward again with Super Simon, Stan the Man and Indiana Jones putting in bigtime across half forward. Oakleigh repels the ball only to encounter resolute determination from Captain Courageous, The Machine, Destroyer Dakis and Terminator who combine to push the ball forward again. Good work close in sees the Magician feed the ball to Reel Macoy who passes to Crunch then to Mad Dog who goals with the professional prowess of an AFL million dollar man. The Battle of the Somme continues in the centre, but now we can see half way down the ground. Crunch sharks the ball from the centre and moves the ball forward and with help from team mates, Cutless Cuthbert slots it through between the big sticks. Back in the centre and Oakleigh win the tussle and move the ball forward and kick a goal to the cheers from the local fans.
Scores at the end of the second quarter - City 6 goals, Oakleigh 1 goal 3 behinds
3rd Quarter
The third quarter was a sublime display of quality football for everyone to watch with pride. All of the team work drills that Psycho has been working on were put into action on the field. Full Back Extreme C Murdoch (fresh from a hyperbaric infusion of ice cream during last weekends enforced rest day) guarded the goals, and the half back line of The Machine, Destroyer and Sprinter kept sending the ball down forward. Opportunism down forward saw Super Simon score the first goal, and there after it was goals a plenty for City. Mad Dog kicked three for the quarter, and The Breeze feeds one to Crunch who used Daicos like skills to thread one through the big sticks. The real story for the quarter was the body on body work by City players that wore down the opposition, and the wonderful teamwork and spirit in the playing group.
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 11 goals 2 behinds, Oakleigh 1 goal 3 behinds
4th Quarter
The final quarter was a continuation of the good football seen in the third quarter, with the back line strengthened with late arrivals Gowlie Ellwood and OJ the Juicer Hayat. Oakleigh took the early ascendancy and scored the first major, but the City players took on the challenge of 5 goals for the quarter and started to apply themselves. Goals were scored by Crunch, Zak Power, Iceman, The Hunk and a tremendous "First Goal" for Reel Macoy Vargas. Congrats to all the players for a very good game of football and continuing pressure for the full game time.
The song was sung in the rooms after the game, and there were plenty of moist eyes in the crowd. All in all, the best team game that I have seen from the players, and a great result for the team. Every player put in a sensational effort.
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter - City 16 goals 4 behinds, Oakleigh 2 goals 3 behinds
Outstanding Player Award - Zak Power, Mad Dog Jarret, Iceman Tang, Crunch Crocker
Coaches Award - Indiana Jones
Brick Awards - Destroyer Dakis
Compliments to Bob Dylan and Happy Hopkins (registered off for the day) who turned up to support the team and their mates.
Congrats to Hammer on his 100% success rate as a coach (can he continue?)
MATCH REPORT 24/5/09 – ST KILDA CITY U9 V ST.BEDES MENTONE U9
Captain for the day – Zach Destroyer Dakis
Football before the storm.
1st Quarter
St Kilda kicked towards the city against a slight breeze in the first quarter, with Zak Power in the ruck, with Mad Dog and Courageous scouting the packs. Psycho had requested an effort of supreme proportions, and the boys gave their all. Destroyer Dakis , Sprinter Fox and The Terminator formed a wall across the middle and made the ball go the City way. Crunch showed no mercy down forward, with Indiana Jones and Bob Dylan helping out. The Hunk Twigg took every opportunity coming his way, and he scored the first major for City. Zak Power was all over the ground, and he duly scored the second goal for City after a good mark in the goal square. Our defense was superb, with Gillie Oulton, The Machine, Sam The Saint and Stan the Man guarding our goals as if their life depended on it. The ball was propelled into the forward line by the midfield, and Crunch takes up a golden opportunity and scores the third goal for City. Back in the centre and Zak Power is still running everywhere, and he follows the ball into the forward line and takes possession in front of goal and duly scores a goal off his right foot, just to show us he has good skills on both sides of the body.
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City 4 goals 1 behind, St Bedes no score
2nd Quarter
Kicking with a slight tail wind, City were hard at it again in the second quarter, with Mad Dog, Terminator and Courageous working the packs. St Bedes also increased their work rate and made the City players work hard for their possession. Sprinter Fox, The Breeze Blee and Indiana Jones were showing their skills, with The Crucifier and Boomer Sharp adding some nip down forward. Zak power is still running all over the ground, and he kicks a major after a good mark in the goal square. Crunch keeps feeding the ball down forward and Boomer Sharp takes possession and goals after some in and under work. St Bedes then get the ball down in their forward line, with Gowlie Ellwood, Super Simon and The Breeze working over time in the last line of defense. St Bedes manage to score 2 goals for the quarter, but the efforts of Courageous, Gillie, Mad Dog and The Machine illustrate just how determined the City boys are.
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City 6 goals 2 behinds, St Bedes 2 goals
3rd Quarter
The City machine is still working well with a lot of intensity in the packs. St Bedes have also upped the work rate and our back line is under the pump. Super Simon, The Machine and Gillie Oulton are all working hard across half back, and the last line of defense with Bob Dylan, Sam The Saint and The Breeze are all getting under the skin of the St Bedes forwards. St Bedes score early on, but City fights back and take the ball forward on several occasions. For some reason, the forwards cannot find the big sticks and they kick 4 behinds for the quarter (I can feel some skill drills coming on). Reel Macoy and Cutless Cuthbert are still working hard down forward, and Super allows some respite from the brace of points, as he duly slots one through the big sticks,
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 7 goals 6 behinds, St Bedes 4 goals 3 behinds
4th Quarter
Psycho called for a last quarter big effort, and the boys didn’t let him down. Zak Power started in the ruck, but suffered a leg injury early on, and had to come off for a rest. The boys teamed well through the last quarter, with lots of sheparding and assists becoming the norm. St Bedes put up a good fight, and they scored two majors for the term, and this made the backline take notice. The Machine, Destroyer Dakis, Super Simon and Gowlie Ellwood were all working hard in defense, and they were ably assisted by The Saint and The Breeze. The midfield of Sprinter, Terminator and The Man ran the game out well and they pushed the ball down forward on a number of occasions, and this allowed Cutless to score a major for City, and that put the game beyond reach for St. Bedes. The song was sung in the rooms after the game, and the volume was huge.
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter – City 8 goals 8 behinds, St Bedes 4 goals 4 behinds
Outstanding Player Award – Gillie Oulton
Coaches Award – Destroyer Dakis
Brick Awards – Courageous Sayers, Indiana Jones, The Breeze Blee, Stan The Man Saniga
MATCH REPORT 3/5/09 – ST KILDA CITY U9 V BEAUMARIS U9 ONE
Captain for the day – Cody Cutless Cuthbert
Another great day for footy down at Banksia Reserve, and our boys were raring to go. Psycho was back at the helm, and there was a good deal of intensity in the rooms.
1st Quarter
St Kilda kicked towards the bay in the first quarter, and this week we had OJ the Juicer in ruck, with Mad Dog and Iceman doing the ground work. The first quarter started with both sides moving the ball into the forward lines, and every City player was putting in. Terminator, Extreme C Murdoch, Mad Dog, Gillie Oulton, The Magician Walker, Sprinter Fox, and Crunch were working the packs in the middle. Down back, The Machine Hocking, and Gowlie Ellwood were in and under on several occasions, giving the crowd plenty to cheer about, but Beaumaris managed to score the first goal. The ball seemed to be spending a bit of time in the forward line for Beaumaris, and they scored two more points for the term. Super Simon was doing an excellent job putting the ball back into play, and occasional moves down into the forward line allowed the talents of Indiana Jones, The Hunk Twigg, Cutless Cuthbert, Boomer Sharp, and Bob Dylan to show that we were a force to be reckoned with.
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City no score, Beaumaris 1 goal 2 behinds
2nd Quarter
City gained an early ascendancy and cleared the ball from the centre and moved it down forward, with Crucifier and Nathan Brown working hard. With great opportunism, The Reel Macoy takes possession in the goal square, and then shoots off a Kevin Bartlett handpass to The Hunk who duly slots a goal. Hats off to Reel Macoy for being so unselfish. Back in the centre and the hard work continues with Iceman, Mad Dog and OJ the Juicer putting in a big effort. The ball seems to have a tendency to go the way of Beaumaris, and we see Terminator and The Machine clearing the ball to relieve some pressure down back. Beaumaris are running hard at this stage, and look like they will be difficult to stop. Iceman, The Magician, The Saint, Gillie, Stan the Man, The Breeze Blee and Happy Hopkins are all using their heads in one way or another, and the City Spirit is still there for us to admire. Mad Dog is still lighting up the crowd with an excellent display of running gathering bouncing and kicking, and giving all the other players something to aspire to. The intensity and the heavy body work is a big improvement from recent matches, and we can all see the training drills starting to work. Beaumaris have a slight edge over City, and the rooms at half time are all about putting in extra effort in for the second half.
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City 1 goal 0 behinds, Beaumaris 2 goals 4 behinds
3rd Quarter
St Kilda showed some early promise in the third quarter by moving the ball efficiently into the forward line, and after some deft footwork by Mad Dog, he slots a major. Centre ball ups were taken by Gowlie Ellwood, Bob Dylan, Crunch and the Terminator assisting where possible. Beaumaris were starting to show us some of their good skills, and the third quarter saw Beaumaris having it down in their forward line a lot of the time, putting a lot of pressure on our backline. Early moves were made by Psycho to try and counteract the flow, and The Hunk was moved down back, and Mad dog was also moved out of the full forward position to try and get some run through the midfield. The Machine, Extreme C, The Breeze Blee, Crunch Crocker, Cutless Cuthbert, and The Saint were all resolute in defense and put their bodies on the line on many occasions, but Beaumaris scored at will for the quarter kicking 5 goals to City 1 goal for the term
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 2 goals, Beaumaris 7 goals 6 behinds
4th Quarter
Psycho put the best form on the field for the last term and challenged the boys to go for it. OJ in ruck, Iceman and Mad Dog for the crumbs, and City were off and running. Beaumaris had the early running, but City were fighting in numbers. City ran the game out well with all players putting in. City scored 3 goals for the quarter with The Hunk kicking two and Crunch kicking one. Beaumaris scored another 2 goals for the quarter, but all in all, an A grade effort was put in by all City players. Mad Dog Jarrett was the standout player on the day with lots of running football, and Terminator continues his excellent never say die work ethic in the centre of the ground.
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter – City 5 goals , Beaumaris 9 goals 8 behinds
Outstanding Player Award – Mad Dog Jarrett
Coaches Award – Terminator Hollick
Brick Awards – The Saint Grey, Gowlie Ellwood, Reel Macoy Vargas, Gillie Oulton

Captain for the day – Hugo The Hunk Twigg
A great day for mother’s day, and a lovely day for football. A clear blue sky with a big yellow ball greeted us down at Chisholm Reserve, and Razor Sharp gathered the boys and talked about playing as a team.
1st Quarter
City started kicking to the northern end on a day which presented no advantage to either end. The early going was pretty tough, with Zak Power, Mad Dog, Courageous and Terminator raising the bar in the middle with Cutless and Sprinter working hard down back, but Sandy scored an early goal. City then took the ball down forward and with the help of Crunch, Bob Dylan and the Hunk, Gowlie Ellwood takes possession and nails a major. Sandy then take the ball out of the centre and move it forward with good running play. Hard work was the call of the day down in the back line with The Magician Walker, OJ the Juicer, Gillie Oulton, The Machine Hocking, Crucifier Posthumus and Happy Hopkins resisting the advances of East Sandy, but East Sandy manage to score another goal. Razor Sharp and the gang of coaches then move Crunch Crocker down back to try and stem the advances of East Sandy. City manage to move the ball forward after the Terminator marks in the middle, and the Hunk slots through a goal with the help of Boomer Sharp, Gowlie Ellwood and Nathan Brown. The rest of the first quarter was dominated by East Sandy as they scored another two majors for the term, with the Crucifier preventing a whitewash with a big effort on the goal line.
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City 2 goals, East Sandy 4 goals 2 behinds
2nd Quarter
East Sandy tended to dominate the second quarter as City had a lot of trouble getting it past the centre. The back line was working extremely hard, but the East Sandy player’s were often getting away from their opponents and creating more opportunities. Reel Macoy, Stan the Man, The Machine, Zac Power, Crunch, Iceman, Gowlie and Gillie were all resolute in defence, but City couldn’t get it down into their forward line and create any havoc with the scorers. East Sandy put on 2 goals for the quarter, and City failed to score
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City 2 goals, East Sandy 6 goals 7 behinds
3rd Quarter
Razor swung in some structural changes, but East Sandy scores an early goal. Mad Dog, The Hunk and Terminator all work hard on the ball and feed it to The Magician who marks in front of the points. An errant kick sees City score a point, but some goods signs are there to see. More hard work in the forward line by Crunch and Terminator sees Cutless in possession, and he slots a major for City. East Sandy continue to play good footy and they manage to score a few times. By now our back line is feeling the pressure, but they don’t stop putting in. Sprinter Fox epitomizes the spirit by being on the bottom of the pack, but free kicks are hard to come by. East Sandy seem as though they are hunting in packs, and this sees the ball through their goals 4 times for the quarter.
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 3 goals 3 behinds, East Sandy 10 goals 9 behinds
4th Quarter
City players show the relentless spirit that City is known for, and even though the task is huge, the players put every effort into the last quarter. East Sandy are still hunting in packs, and they show a lot of class in excellent running, kicking, bouncing, marking and shepherding. They score a barrage of goals for the quarter, and it is easy to see that the game has taken it’s toll on the city players. East Sandy kick 5 goals for the quarter, leaving no doubt that they were the better team on the day.
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter – City 3 goals 3 behinds, East Sandy 15 goals 12 behinds

The weather was kind to us down at Wattie Watson, but little did we know that the opposition was going to be quite the opposite. With lovely sunshine and a light breeze from the north, Richard Razor Sharp (stand in for Psycho) gathered the boys and presented the plan of action.
1st Quarter
St Kilda kicked against the breeze in the first quarter, and this week we started with The Hunk at full back. Zak the Power and Crunch Crocker did some early hard work in the middle of the ground and this moved the ball into our forward line. Herculean type efforts from our forwards in Super Simon, Cutless Cuthbert, Gowlie Ellwood, Henry The Breeze Blee and Dylan Bob, saw Boomer Sharp slot the first major. From then on, the game became fairly scrappy, and the boys had to work very hard for possessions. The midfield of Terminator, Iceman, The Magician and Courageous were all putting their bodies on the line, but this couldn’t prevent a forward thrust by Mordi-Brae, and this resulted in a goal being scored by the visitors. From then on, the ball spent a fair amount of time in the visitor’s forward line, and this put enormous pressure on the backs, with The Hunk, The Saint, and Happy Hopkins wearing most of the pressure in the last line of defence. Mordi- Brae kept peppering the goals, but Gillie Oulton, The Machine and Extreme C fought hard to stop the majors from being scored. All in all, the skills of Mordi-Brae were looking ominous.
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City 1 goal, Mordi-Brae 2 goals 3 behinds
2nd Quarter
The second quarter was scrappy football in the main with lots of body work being done on our boys by the opposition. Mordi- Brae were still showing lots of class, and this resulted in the ball being in their forward line for a lot of the quarter. Mac The Machine and Indiana Jones were still working hard across half back, as was OJ the Juicer at full back. Good skills were still evident in the City players with an excellent thrust into the forward zone involving Stan The Man, Nathan Brown, Iceman, Srinter Fox and Dylan Bob. A resultant ball up saw Crunch take possession and bring up a minor score. Mordi-Brae scored two goals for the term, and City were under the pump.
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City 1 goal 1 behind, Mordi-Brae 4 goals 4 behinds
3rd Quarter
The third quarter was similar to the second with Mordi Brae having it down in their forward line a lot of the time, putting a lot of pressure on our backline. Crunch Crocker, The Saint Grey and Dylan Bob were resolute in defense and put their bodies on the line on many occasions, and every now and then we saw the midfield combine for a forward thrust with Iceman, Crunch, Zak Power, Reel Macoy Vargas and Cutless all looking good. Again though the skills of Mordi Brae won the term, with City not troubling the scorers, and Mordi Brae putting on 2 goals 3 behinds.
Scores at the end of the third quarter - City 1 goal 1 behind, Mordi-Brae 6 goals 7 behinds
4th Quarter
For the final term, City had trouble getting it out of the ball ups, and this resulted in a lot of activity down in our backline. Enormous efforts by The Magician, OJ the Juicer, Indiana and Cutless were not enough but standout efforts with Crunch saving a certain goal and Dylan Bob taking a fearless mark were highlights. Gillie Oulton, The Machine and Extreme C were all working overtime, but in the end, Mordi Brae had scored 5 goals and 3 behinds for the quarter, and on the way showcasing some tremendous skills and very mature football nouse. Well done Mordi Brae, but be rest assured, the fighting spirit of City still lives
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter – City 1 goal 1 behind, Mordi-Brae 11 goals 10 behinds

Captain for the day – Marco Magician Walker
A cold and windy day greeted us down at Le Page Park, letting us all know that winter has arrived and that it was going to be a hard day for football.
1st Quarter
St Kilda kicked with the breeze in the first quarter, and we had what is now becoming a standard line up.
Cheltenham tended to dominate the early running as it looked like our boys were still at the breakfast table. Heavin, Mad Dog, The Saint and the Magician were in there working hard but Cheltenham continued pushing and working the ball into their forward line. Extreme C Murdoch, Iceman, Stan the Man Saniga and OJ the Juicer Hayat were all working hard down back, but were unable to stop Cheltenham from scoring 2 goals. Centre bounces saw Terminator Hollick and Iceman Tang hard at it with The Saint Grey also helping out. City had started to wake up now, and the ball was moving down forward. The Hunk Twigg missed the goals once, but after solid marking in the forward line by Terminator, the ball went to Mad Dog to Boomer Sharp who laid off a great handball to Hunk who then serenely kicked it through the middle. The ball was then spending more time in the City forward line with “Bob”, Gowlie, Noa Super Simon and Adam “Gillie” Oulton doing well. Points were being scored, and after Iceman marked a kick in, he kicked into the goal square and Crunch Crocker marked well. A good kick split the big sticks and City were starting to look the goods
Scores at the end of the first quarter – City 2 goals 3 behinds, Cheltenham 2 goals 1 behind
2nd Quarter
The wind was picking up and City were going against the wind, but the boys were ready for some hard work. Heavin, Courageous, Bob, Henry Kissinger Blee, Ted “ Nathan” Brown, Brodie Happy Hopkins, Cody “Cutless” Cuthbert and Extreme C Murdoch were all working very hard. The ball spent a lot of time in the Cheltenham forward line and City were unable to trouble the scorers in this quarter. A courageous effort by Terminator smothering an opposition kick saw the crowd light up at one stage, but it was just hard work.
Scores at the end of the second quarter – City 2 goals 3 behinds, Cheltenham 4 goals 2 behinds
3rd Quarter
With City kicking downwind, we were hopeful of a good result. Psycho Jarrett re-jigged the midfield and this seemed to pay dividends. The ball was taken down forward and on 5 occasions, City pumped it through the middle. Crunch Crocker gave it the start we needed with a running goal, Gowlie Ellwood lived up to his name and pumped 2 through the middle, Crunch followed up with another one, and Heavin made us feel even better when he put the fifth through. Although these guys kicked the goals, the efforts of Winter Sprinter Fox, Indiana Jones, Bob, Hunk, Courageous, Super Simon, Gillie Oulton and Boomer all made it possible. The back line had a quiet quarter as Cheltenham failed to score in this quarter
Scores at the end of the third quarter – City 7 goals 6 behinds, Cheltenham 4 goals 2 behinds
4th Quarter
Kicking into the breeze was even harder now as the wind had picked up to around 30 knots and we were in for an exciting finish. Everyone in the back line was pumped to produce, and magnanimous efforts were put in by all. The Hunk was moved down back and Psycho was ringing the changes through the quarter. Henry Kissinger Blee, Crucifier Posthumus, Extreme C, The Saint, Super Simon, Heavin, Crunch, Courageous, Bob, Iceman, and the Magician were all exhibiting the never say die attitude that we now know as City spirit. Cheltenham managed to kick 3 goals, and the result could have gone either way. In the end it was city by 4 points, and all the players were exhausted. Suffice to say, they had just enough energy left to pump out that song that we just love to hear.
Final scores at the end of the 4th quarter – City 7 goals 6 behinds, Cheltenham 7 goals 2 behinds
Outstanding Player Award – Heavin Levin
Coaches Award – Iceman Tang

Match Report – St Kilda City U9. Versus East Brighton – 19/4/09
It was just an average day for most, but our guys were on edge and ready to prove that they were a good football team.
First Quarter - St Kilda City kicking to the northern end first with some assistance from the breeze
Coach "Psycho" Jarrett got all the boys warmed up next to the oval and set up the team on the board. "Heavin" Levin was the first one to get a feel for the Sherrin as he started in the ruck. He fed the ball to "Mad Dog" Jarrett and we were away. Crunch Crocker gathers at centre half forward and kicks it further forward, East Brighton work hard and bring the ball back to the centre, and with some "in and under" by Terminator Hollick, and others around the centre, the ball goes back down into the forward line for consumption by the City forwards. Mad Dog Jarret takes possession and with clever evasion, puts the first goal on the board for City. This brings the ball back to the centre and Heavin Levin palms it out of the ruck again. Mad Dog Jarrett is working very hard again, just like Courageous Sayers. Iceman Tang, Gowlie Ellwood, Heavin Levin, Hugo Hunk Twigg, Crunch Crocker and all the other forwards are working like a well drilled team, and with more excellent work, Hunk goals. Heavin Levin rucks and roves his own ball and provides another forward push. With more sensational team work, the ball is moved deep into the forward line and Crunch Crocker puts in his first goal of the day. Back at the centre, Heavin continues his great work, and with Samuel The Saint Grey, Marco Magician Walker all working hard, the ball spends a lot of time in the City half of the ground. East Brighton are not giving up and they are teaming well, and through hard work they kick a very handy goal up the beach end. Back in the middle and Heavin palms it down to Mad Dog who moves the ball into the forward line. A ball up follows, and Crunch Crocker with agile footwork works his way through the pack and put in his second goal for the day. Back in the middle for another rucking duel, and Terminator Hollick clears the pack and sends the ball into the forward line. East Brighton again take possession and take the ball into their forward line with The Machine Hocking, Gowlie Ellwood and Oliver OJ Hayat working hard up back to repel the thrust of the Vampires.
End First Quarter with score St Kilda 4.0 to East Brighton 1 goal
2nd quarter
The second quarter provided more great work from Heavin with Marco Magician Walker also putting in. East Brighton were also hard at it, with Terminator and Iceman stopping them from going forward. Our backmen stopped some of the close checking seen earlier, and East Brighton moved the ball quickly down forward and goaled. Heavin rucked and roved the middle and kicked the ball to Bob Harrison-Smith. Still trying to move it downfield, we saw heroic efforts from Courageous and Mad Dog with bumps and hard running, and Crunch Crocker gets his hands on the ball and just misses the big ones for a point. More hard work from the kick in saw touches to Mad Dog, Bob, Heavin, Hugo, Curtis and then with magical touch, a goal to Heavin. East Brighton takes the ball out of the centre, and with our back line starting to wander off from their men, East Brighton score another major. Back in the centre and Heavin knocks the ball out again (the writer is getting used to this by now) to Mad Dog and then on to Courageous and into the forward line. The play gets a bit congested and some scrappy hard work follows. East Brighton gain possession and clear the ball out of the forward line once again. Marco Magician Walker was doing some hard work through the middle, but this was not enough to stop East Brighton entering their forward line. A huge effort by The Machine saw an excellent smother, and then Mad Dog and Courageous saw the ball into the forward line and Chester Extreme C Murdoch kicks for goal. A scrimmage follows from which Crunch emerges with the ball and sublimely slots another major. More Heavin and Courageous at the throw up, with some heavy work being done by the Terminator, followed by more great teamwork from Crunch, Bob, Magician and all the other forwards. East Brighton takes possession again and gets the ball moving quickly out of our forward line and over the heads of our defenders and they start a run at goal. Mad Dog isn't content to see this happen, and he runs them down and takes possession. East Brighton regroup and out-muscle Mad Dog and get a resultant free kick. They quickly move it further down field and score a goal just before the siren sounds.
Score St Kilda 6.1 to East Brighton 4 goals
3rd quarter.
Gowlie goes into the ruck to give Heavin a rest, with Hunk and Elliot “Indiana” Jones prominent down forward. Lots of endeavor not being rewarded and City cannot get the game to flow. Cameron Boomer Sharp gets in the game and boots the ball to Hunk then onto Extreme C, and back to Hunk who slots a minor.. Crunch marks the kick in and kicks it forward finding Indiana in front. Indy, with boots ablaze, kicks at goal but fails to make it, but Boomer pick it up and kicks it round the corner for a goal. At the centre, Gowlie, Crunch, OJ Hayat and Terminator get it down to Hunk. More congested forward lines are making it hard to get the ball moving, but the relentless effort continues. Magician teams with The Saint and City move it down forward, with hard work from Indiana moving the ball onto Crunch and then onto Hunk who goals. Sublime teamwork. The centre bounce is again won by City and the ball is moved forward. Lots of extra effort is going in here, and results in a magnificent mark taken 35 out from goal by Gowlie. A kick at goal falls short and East Brighton clear. The Hunk is gains possession on the wing and sends it down to Boomer and then onto Indiana. City loses control of the ball and it goes over the boundary line. East Brighton takes the ball from the throw in and clear to the wing. Supreme effort from The Machine and Courageous pressure East Brighton and they can only kick a point. The kick in comes to Crunch who moves it on to Gowlie and then onto OJ. East Brighton re-gain possession and move the ball fluently back into the forward line and goal. The remaining time in the quarter sees more excellent effort but neither side scored.
Score St Kilda 8.2 to East Brighton 4.1
4th quarter
Heavin is back in the ruck for the last quarter with Mad Dog, Iceman and Stan the Man Saniga in the center square. Heavin slides the ball to Mad Dog and then in turn to Extreme C down forward. The kick goes astray and results in a throw in. Of the pack the ball is kicked up in the air and Bob marks in front of goal. His kick comes off the side of the boot resulting in a point. We now see an amazing period of play where Courageous and Iceman smother, run, gather, kick and generally throw their weight around. They throw themselves on the ball, gain possession and do things that their team mates are just in awe of, and through hard work from all the team they keep the ball up in the forward line for City. Heavin is still running all over the ground and presenting for marking opportunities. East Brighton are still in for a fight and they continue to counter attack. Winter Snow Fox is also presenting well and making his presence felt. Iceman finds a way of smothering the ball with his head, and Courageous picks the ball up and pumps it onto the chest of Bob, who in turn puts it of to Boomer. Again East Brighton repel the attack and move the ball down efficiently down into their forward line and goal. Everybody is tiring with all the hard work, and that is showing on the field. Back in the centre, Heavin taps the ball down to Mad Dog but East Brighton get a free kick. Brodie Happy Hopkins, OJ and Calin Crucifier Posthumus are all putting in supreme efforts to restrict East Brighton, but the ball makes its way down into their forward line. A resultant free kick sees them slot the final major on the siren and the match ends.
Final Score St Kilda 8.3 to East Brighton 6.3 goal
